Powerline – The management for your rail drive

ADEC (Advanced Diesel Engine Control): Engine management system ADEC is a management system developed and produced by MTU for state-of-the-art high performance diesel engines – designed not only for unlimited control of the Common Rail technology of the new engine Series 4000, but most of all for the command over frequently occurring extreme load conditions and rapid load changes which ADEC manages reliably and smoothly.

The main ADEC features are:

  • Engine-mounted and wired assembly
  • Engine management with integrated control and monitoring system
  • Integrated safety system and self-test system
  • CAN bus interface POM (Power Output Module): Module for starter and battery-charging generator control

The main POM features are:

  • Engine-mounted component, connected to starter and battery-charging generator
  • Customers do no longer need to connect their power cabling to the engine
  • Starter is generally connected to POM, no starter relay required
  • Starting process optimization
  • Starter monitoring with engagement verification
  • Monitoring of battery-charging generator operation
  • Line break and short circuit monitoring
  • Battery voltage monitoring with interference in start process and output of status and fault information
  • Connection between ADEC and POM via CAN bus

PAU (Power Automation Unit): Module for monitoring, control and plant-specific system integration of peripheral components.

The main PAU features are:

  • Component supplied as loose part, with (redundant) CAN Open interface to locomotive control.
  • Transmission of all engine-related operating values incl. diagnostic data to the locomotive control system.
  • Supplementary monitoring and control of engine related peripheral equipment/functions, e.g. coolant preheating, coolant level monitoring, charge-air preheating, fuel pumps, air filter, integrated safety features (e.g. automatic shutdown, power reduction), data output for fuel consumption display, ethernet diagnostic interface (e.g. service laptop) on browser level), data storage function.
Standard Ship Automation Systems

Tailoring a standard ship automation system to meet your requirements is a job for someone who knows your vessel inside-out: MTU.
smartlineblueline and bluevision are MTU’s standard ship automation systems. These are modular monitoring and control systems which have been specifically developed for yachts, workboats and patrol boats.

Depending on the layout of your vessel, your needs and your budget you can choose between the straightforward smartlineversion, the more comprehensive blueline and the top-of-the-range bluevision version. The differences lie in the control facilities on the consoles and in design variations for classified and non-classified plants.

All three systems include the RCS Remote Control System.

Motivline – Controlling the power with intelligent electronics

Our engines are powerful and technically advanced. But in order to offer the best efficiency, reliability and environmental safety, they need more than just power. They need intelligent management. Modern electronic engine management systems handle the control and monitoring of the hardware and so enable perfection of performance. The combination of power and precision.
The motivline automation system is an innovative high-end technology developed by MTU for mining vehicles. motivlineperforms the control and monitoring functions for the entire engine plant. The modular system guarantees optimum adaptation of the diesel engine to the diversity of operating conditions in mining.

motivline supports:

  • Straight forward integration into new or existing (if repowering) vehicle control systems.
  • Flexible adaptation to the vehicle and/or its components and project-specific requirements.
  • Automatic power output adjustment or optional engine shutdown by the integrated safety system and all other necessary monitoring and safety functions.
  • Connection to the integrated life data storage equipment for back-up of engine data for service personnel. Interface for vehicle GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) device optional.
  • Straight forward interface handling by the Service Application Module (SAM).

motivline harmonizes the engine integration into the vehicle. Because of that optimized conditions generates:

  • High power-efficiency
  • Low fuel consumption
  • Minimal exhaust emissions that are substantially below the legal limits

For the series 4000 engines, a new engine management system ADEC has been developed, whilst there is also an extensive range of standardized solutions available – with options for flexible interfaces. The Engine Monitoring Unit (EMU) provides further enhanced availability by means of additional monitoring and diagnostic options for the engine. Complementing the SAM interface module, POM optimizes the start process and simplifies cabling to the starter and alternator. The complete Plug & Play system makes installation of the engine in the vehicle considerably simpler and faster.

PowerPack Automation – The brains of your Powertrain.

The PowerPack® Automation System is an innovative high-end technology from MTU for railway vehicles – railcars, for instance. PowerPack® Automation optimizes the control, regulation, and monitoring of the entire powertrain. The modularly designed system ensures that the powertrain can easily be customized to a variety of complex conditions present when operating a railway system.

The following is possible with PowerPack® Automation:

  • Easy integration into new or – in the case of refitting – existing vehicle control systems.
  • Flexibly adapting vehicles or vehicle components to project-specific requirements.
  • Automatic performance adjustments or engine shutdowns, if necessary, via the integrated safety system, as well as all further necessary monitoring and safety functions.
  • The integrated automatic load control (moment control management) optimizes the traction respective to the amount of connected load (for example generators, compressors, etc.)
