Synthetic & Future Gases

Syngas (Synthetic or Synthesis gas)

  • Manufactured Gas Utilizing a Thermo-Chemical Process (>1000 °F)
  • Consists Primarily of Hydrogen (H2), Carbon Monoxide (CO), and Some Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
  • Less than Half the Energy Density of Natural Gas (Specific Heat Capacity of 120 BTU/scf)
  • Combustible and Often Used as a Fuel Source or as an Intermediate for the Production of Other Chemicals
  • Produced in Large Waste-to-Energy Gasification Facilities
  • Biomass, Municipal Waste, Wood Chips, etc
  • Very Diverse Product, Hence Close Tolerance Control Needed for Use in an Engine
  • Not Yet Released for Use in MTU OEG Products
