WBD has worked on my big trucks for years. It’s 100 miles from my location to Western Branch Diesel’s Lost Creek facility, and I probably pass 4 or 5 other service providers on the way, but always drive right past to WBD because they take great care to keep my trucks running without any problems.

The below is a testimonial we recently received from a completed engine repower on a crane at Naval Station Norfolk for NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic in Norfolk, Virginia

This was a repower to replace an aging 8V-92 with an MTU Series 60 engine powering a floating crane for the Navy ships dock. The job was done at Collana’s Shipyard with their cooperation on the project, and WBD now certifies the engine performance annually.

Gary,
Good to hear from you. I wish everything we had in our inventory had as good a performance history as the upgrade you performed on this unit. We will still be contacting you to perform a sensor shut-down test for the engine controller each certification period. Look forward to working with your organization in the future. Best regards.

Miltz has been directly and indirectly involved with WBD business for more than 20 years. Through his various affiliations – from the OEM level as a Vice President at Detroit Diesel to Vice President of a retail diesel-affiliated dealership to his most recent tour working directly with the management team at Western Branch Diesel, Miltz has an entrenched understanding of WBD business, its customers and nearly 300 employees.

As COO, Miltz will be responsible for overseeing all sales activities and daily operations for Western Branch Diesel’s Marine, On-Highway, Construction & Industrial, Power Generation, Oil & Gas, and Mining & Quarry business segments. He will work closely with WBD’s principals and managers, as well as WBD’s OEM partners at Detroit Diesel, MTU, Allison and Wheel Time to name a few – ensuring that WBD continues to offer the most cost effective and comprehensive solutions for customers, while also improving the lives of WBD employees, business partners, and the communities in which they live and work.

“Rob is an accomplished leader, with a track record of working with high-growth, diesel and gas-affiliated companies,” said WBD President & CEO Herb Haneman.”He brings a great mix of leadership, inspiration, operational experience, technical breadth, and passion for customer care. Rob possesses the ideal skill set to build on my family’s leadership legacy and we are extremely optimistic about his ability to successfully lead Western Brand Diesel in delivering the best sales and service business across all segments.”

Western Branch Diesel recently completed a critical power backup project for a government agency’s Manassas, Virginia airport hanger. We handled this project from start to finish, with team players including Turner VA Corp & ASCO.

From the project’s outset, we helped select a generator size and offered recommendations for the property’s building plans. This particular project called for one 16000 series 350 kW MTU Onsite Energy diesel generator and 1200 amp Nema 3R transfer switch from ASCO.

Throughout the project, WBD provided a turnkey solution – getting required permits, pouring the concrete pad, providing electrical support, rigging the generator into place and completing the installation with defensive bollards. We then provided fuel delivery services and treatment for both start-up and fuel storage and began a yearly maintenance contract.

In short, Western Branch Diesel provided this customer a comprehensive solution culminating with an operating generator set on-site, with the entire project requiring little effort on their end.

Western Branch Diesel was recently selected as MTU’s “Best Practices” example in the field of customer service for the MTU Worldwide Distributor Conference held last week in Bregenz, Austria.

The Worldwide Distributor Conference has been held every three years since 2003, and is a three-day event consisting of seminars and meetings between MTU and the principals of their distributorships around the world.

WBD was asked to man a display at their “market fair” to represent the best practices for MTU customer service. There were three field exhibits in total – customer service, engine sales and generator sales. WBD was the only North American distributor chosen to represent a best practice, and hold a featured presentation. Other displays at the fair presented tools and activities that MTU provides to their dealer network to improve business and customer relationships.

Being chosen in this capacity is the utmost praise for Western Branch Diesel and our approach to customer service and satisfaction. There were 148 MTU distributors from 56 countries participating in the event, so to be chosen as one of the top 3 examples worldwide was a great experience that we were proud to share at the conference and beyond.

Western Branch Diesel’s Power Generation Division, in cooperation with Power System Inc, Ewing Associates & Tanks Direct, recently finished a long term power generation project for the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands.

Located in Washington DC, the Kingdom of the Netherland’s Embassy houses a Citrix server data center which feeds critical operational data to 12 embassies throughout North & South America. It was our job to design and implement a redundant power system for the Embassy, built around two 180 kW MTU Onsite Engergy diesel generator sets.

The system is designed for the Embassy to have a reliable, redundant power backup (if one generator fails, the other generator kicks on), and included a number of additional specifications. These requirements included upgrading the fuel monitoring system of their existing 5,000 gallon fuel tank, as well as the integration of a two-in-one Zenith automatic transfer switch, which provides failure sensing and test mode rotation for both gensets. Another unique challenge was posed by the site’s location in a residential part of the District of Columbia – the property line required additional sound attenuation, which was solved by the installation of Crystal Quiet Enclosures.

Overall, this was a long-term, mission critical project that we were honored to take part in, and would like to once again thank all of our partners and personnel who helped it become a reality.

On Thursday at approximately 2:00 pm we received a call from Shep Moore (Senior Project Manager) and Paul Mella (Senior Vice President) of Dynalectric.

They had gotten a call from a very important client of theirs, JBG Companies. JBG is the owner/developer of “Central Place,” a project being built over the WMATA Metro Rosslyn, VA station.

A contractor working on the site inadvertently cut the control line for the generator that supports the Life Safety system for the station. We provided a proposal to Dynalectric for a 550Kw rental generator within 15 minutes of receiving their call.

Later that afternoon we received a call from Jim Klein, Senior Vice President of JBG Companies to ask how quickly we could deliver the unit.

Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of our own Butch Simonetti, Kyle Ramsey & Tim Studer we were able to have the generator, cable & fuel on-site by 10:30 am on Friday 4/13/2012, as requested by JBG Companies.

Jim Reed (JBG’s Project Manager) was very appreciative and highly complimentary of WBD’s efforts.
