Western Branch Diesel to Offer Allison Transmission’s All New FracTran™

Allison FracTran

Targeted for release in the fourth quarter of 2022, Allison Transmission’s newly designed transmission for the fracking industry, FracTran, meets the unique needs of the hydraulic fracturing industry. Western Branch Diesel is proud to offer transmission sales and to be a part of Allison’s Authorized Service network.

Allison has been a supplier of hydraulic fracturing transmissions for decades, but in recent years as the industry has evolved, so have the customers’ needs. Following industry trends and their effects, Allison has developed an all-new, clean-sheet design with input from customers who have operated Allison products in the fracturing application for decades. FracTran is a transmission that is purpose built for hydraulic fracturing that will help customers experience increased productivity, a low total cost of ownership, and unparalleled durability.

“This is the biggest development in hydraulic fracturing in 30 years, and the best new product for the market. It’s designed to meet the harsh demands of the industry. We’re excited to offer a complete, leading-edge solution to customers,” says Mike McElwain, Regional Off-Highway Service Manager, Western Branch Diesel. “Our technicians will receive full factory training on the transmission to provide the best service, which we’ll combine with easy parts availability for our customers.”

FracTran will be launched with a rating of 3,300 horsepower and 10,000 pound/feet of input torque, and a capability of up to 3,500 horsepower, with no hardware modifications required. With a service life of up to 25,000 hours, Western Branch Diesel will be ready to assist customers who need preventive maintenance and for unplanned service calls. In addition, they will offer a transmission overhaul that can provide a second life without hard parts replacement.

“If you look around the industry, most of the transmissions being used are not built specifically for hydraulic fracturing — they were often built for another application and later adapted,” says Jill Massonne, Director, Global Off-Highway Sales, Allison Transmission. “The Allison FracTran is purpose-built to meet the unique performance requirements of the fracturing industry. It maximizes customer productivity with high reliability and powerful performance under pressure.”

The transmissions are built using state-of-the-art manufacturing technology to provide maximum life, as well as ease of service and maintenance.

“Our customers are seeking higher horsepower, smaller spreads for a reduced environmental footprint, and reduced time to achieve depth for improved sustainability, efficiency, and profitability. Allison is working with customers to meet these desires through innovation, while diminishing the impact on our environment,” says Massonne.
